Design: Classy
The Oppo Find N3 I have is the black leather variant. In Australia, the only colours we got were Gold (Glass back) and Black (Leather back). I bought this black leather one second hand as Oppo Australia didn’t stock many of them and were out of stock a month after launch. The leather back really makes the phone much easier to grip without a case, which is actually how I used this phone most of the time as there aren’t many good cases out there.
The phone features a fingerprint scanner built into the power button and an alert slider. The fingerprint scanner works very well just like my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and it is my preferred fingerprint scanner implementation. The alert slider is convenient when changing sound profiles on the fly. For instance, before I head into my workplace, I can just switch the phone to vibrate immediately.
The cover screen’s 20:9 aspect ratio which makes it a similar to most candy bar smartphones. It makes typing much easier, along with having better app scaling compared to Samsung’s TV remote aspect ratio on the Z Fold6.
Software: ColorOS is good
My Oppo Find N3 runs ColorOS 15 on top of Android 15 at the time of writing. While not as customizable as Samsung’s OneUI7, it is still a really good skin from Oppo. As someone who has never used an Oppo device prior to the Find N3, I found ColorOS to be really clean and smooth during my time using the device. One major feature ColorOS has going for it in particularly with the Find N3, is ‘Boundless View’. This essentially is like existing split-screen multitasking except the windows can expand outside of the screen’s physical boundaries (hence the name Boundless View).
Cameras
Cameras are very good for a foldable. I'd say it's a better camera system than what Samsung has on their Z Fold6 overall. Cameras comprise of 48MP wide, 48MP ultrawide and a 64MP telephoto. I’ve been pretty pleased with the quality that this camera system can produce for a foldable. It will be good enough for most consumers out there. It does struggle a little in low light but it's usable for social media posts.
Battery: Real fast charging is great
Battery life is slightly better than what Samsung has to offer for their Fold6. Even though it has the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC inside, which is not as efficient compared to the newer SOCs like the 8 Gen 3 or 8 Elite. Charging however is a completely different story. It comes bundled with a 67W charger that can charge the phone to 100% in less than an hour. The phone can charge back up to 50% within half an hour whenever I need to make another commute after coming home from work.
Verdict
If you are able to find this phone discounted brand new or used, then you can’t go wrong with the Oppo Find N3. Otherwise, go for the newer Oppo Find N5 and import the global variant. If you want an option with local warranty and support, then you don’t really have options other than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (eventually the successor Z Fold 7) or Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold here in Australia. The Oppo Find N3 is still a joy to use considering its about 2 years old at this point. If you don't need the most top tier cameras and wireless charging, this is a fantastic foldable by Oppo.
